Hebrews 11 in the New Testament scriptures is about faith. And the roster of names is a who’s who of the Hebrew scriptures, the foundation of our Faith. Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Joseph, Moses, Rahab, Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jepthah, David, Samuel, and the prophets.
Even a quick study of these characters reveal that most were deeply flawed, many in the same ways as I am.
Towards the end of this great faith chapter the author reminds us these heroes were outsiders:
“…stories of vagrants wandering the earth in animal skins, homeless, friendless, powerless—the world didn’t deserve them!—making their way as best they could on the cruel edges of the world.”¹
Could we find such faith in the cruel edges of our world?
